My question is I am building a roubo/nicholson combo bench for handtool use very similar to yours with a roubo twist. The legs are 3.5x3 through tenons exposing themselves on the top surface. Was planning on having a 1.5" board running between that and the apron but i also have a tail vise Im installing and the closest to the edge i can run the dog holes is around 6 inches after the width of the apron and all is put together. Will this be a problem with planing? Should i run two rows of dog holes parallel to each other and just have the tail vise dog holding one half of the board and two dogs in the front so I can squeeze it to the edge. Please help. Benchtop is getting glued up soon, upright 2x4s 18" wide and the base is already completed so cannot adjust leg width.
